Introduction The Calgary Squadron of the Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons (CPS) is one of about two hundred and seventy squadrons across Canada. The Calgary Squadron has over four hundred members. Collectively, all squadrons have about forty thousand active members. The CPS is a federally registered non-profit volunteer driven society. Visit the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons' national website to learn more about Canada's largest association of boating enthusiasts.
CPS Calgary is a two faceted organization.
The first revolves around its main mission of providing class room based high quality training for recreational boaters from beginner level through advanced. Most CPS instructors are volunteers and have been providing boating instruction to Canadians since 1938.
In addition, instructor development and officer orientation seminars are offered to CPS members at no charge.
Membership in CPS is not required to take almost all our courses.
Our second role is to be a social and networking resource centre for all recreational boaters in Calgary and area. To facilitate that, we offer monthly socials, the 4th Tuesday of the month, September through November and January through April. Held downtown at the Mewata Armoury, starting at 7PM, these events generally feature a travelogue of someone's cruising adventure somewhere in the world, or an educational presentation. All non-member cruisers welcome at all our monthly social events. RSVP not required. No admission fee. Cash bar available. The season is culminated by a spring banquet which also features our Change of Watch Ceremony, recognition for our students from the past season, an entertaining guest speaker, silent auction, and lots of opportunity to meet and mingle with others with boating adventures to share. The banquet is a great send off for boaters as they head into the summer boating season. Our 2010 fall season will be kicked off with a BBQ where boaters can catch up and tell tall tales of their summer's adventures.
